New MindUP™ Curriculum Helps Children Cultivate Well-Being

The Hawn Foundation's MindUP programWe think you should know about MindUP™, the signature educational initiative of Goldie Hawn’s Hawn Foundation. It’s a family of social, emotional and attentional self-regulatory strategies and skills that help children cultivate well-being and emotional balance and improve their behavior and learning. Like the Garrison Institute’s Cultivating Awareness and Resilience in Education (CARE) program, MindUP™ draws on current research in cognitive neuroscience, evidence-based classroom pedagogy, best-practices in mindful education, precepts of social and emotional learning (SEL) and guiding principles of positive psychology.

On March 1, Scholastic published the MindUP™ curriculum with exercises, children’s books and other practical resources for teachers interested in integrating mindfulness and related goals into the classroom. Garrison Institute Initiative on Contemplation and Education Director Dr. Patricia (Tish) Jennings recently presented CARE and the Initiative’s work at a MindUP™ Workshop for Consultants and Trainers in New York City.  Our August 6-11 CARE for Teachers Summer Retreat will offer an optional MindUP™ training for teachers. For more information on MindUP™, contact Dr. Marc Meyer of The Hawn Foundation at marc.meyer@thehawnfoundation.org.
