Action
Education
CARE for Teachers - Third Annual Cultivating Awareness and Resilience in Education (CARE) Summer Retreat, August 14-19: The CARE Teacher Training Development Project provides a training to help teachers bring greater awareness to the way they teach by giving them tools to establish and maintain supportive relationships with their pupils, manage classroom behaviors effectively and compassionately and to promote awareness and concentration among their pupils. The CARE program was recognized with a major US Department of Education grant.
Trauma
Contemplative practices show promise for enhancing healing and well-being for trauma survivors and trauma caregivers alike. In 2009 the Initiative on Transforming Trauma held a groundbreaking Leaders’ Forum on “Integrating Contemplative Practices, Neuroscience and Cross Cultural Perspectives,” attracting top clinicians, researchers and contemplatives in an unprecedented dialogue, while the Wellness Project completed a successful five-year pilot for front-line workers and administrators in domestic violence shelters.
Ecology
The Initiative on Transformational Ecology's Climate, Mind and Behavior Project recently convened leading thinkers to apply an evolving body of thought about what drives human behavior to climate change policy, proposing new approaches, tools and solutions. In May, the Catalyzing the Clean Energy Economy symposium evaluates opportunities in energy efficiency incentives, and the Climate, Buildings and Behavior symposium cultivates the unique capacity of real estate professionals to have a positive effect on the climate change crisis.
