Climate

The Climate Mind and Behavior (CMB) program connects new insights from social and behavioral sciences about the drivers of human behavior with new thinking on solutions to climate change and other environmental issues. Its annual symposia brings leading neuro-, climate, behavioral and social scientists together with public, nonprofit, and business leaders to advance behavior-based climate and biodiversity solutions. Two of these symposia are coming in the spring of 2012 -- Climate, Mind and Behavior (CMB) and Climate, Buildings and Behavior (CBB). See videos from the 2011 symposia.

Education

Contemplative Teaching and Learning promotes awareness of self, others and the world by infusing classroom life and teaching with experiential practices such as mindfulness, yoga, tai chi and reflective journaling. On April 26th, 2012, the Garrison Institute's program Contemplative Teaching and Learning: Strengthening Evidence Based Practice, co-sponsored by the Mind and Life Institute, will convene researchers and contemplative education practitioners in Denver, CO, in advance of the International Symposia for Contemplative Studies.

Trauma

The Initiative on Transforming Trauma has shown the potential of contemplative practices to enhance the well-being of patients, trauma survivors and caregivers alike. On November 8-11, 2012, the New York Zen Center for Contemplative Care and the Garrison Institute's Wellness Project will present the Buddhist Contemplative Care Symposium, at which leading experts in palliative, hospice and contemplative care join together to explore how contemplative care techniques can improve healing and reducing suffering, while sharing best practices and developing common standards of care.
