Cultivating Inner Stillness for the Winter Solstice: A Special Retreat on How to Meditate

This special retreat will focus on learning how to meditate, and include talks, sitting and walking meditation, yoga, guided meditation, and group discussion. The classic meditation technique, mindfulness/awareness or cultivating inner stillness, will be the focus of the weekend.

The program will appeal to new meditators as well as those with a developed practice or those simply seeking renewal in the serenity of a contemplative environment. Participants will receive a free copy of Chögyam Trungpa’s book, Mindfulness in Action. Talks and guided meditations will be derived in part from the book.

Our caterer, Fresh Company, will prepare healthy, delicious vegetarian meals, featuring locally grown and produced ingredients.

Please Note: This retreat will be held in partial silence.


Derek Kolleeny became a student of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche in 1976. He earned a B.A. in Buddhism from Harvard College and teaches at the Westchester Buddhist Center and Rime Shedra NYC.

Jane Kolleeny has been studying and practicing Buddhism since the early seventies when her teacher Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche arrived in Boulder, CO. Jane is the Garrison Institute’s Retreats Director and teaches at the Westchester Buddhist Center.
