This spring, we're raising $30,000 to fund scholarships for people who most need our programs and cannot afford to attend without your support.

No one should be turned away from a practice that could change their life.

Last year, we had to turn away nearly 35% of the people who applied for scholarship support to attend a Garrison Institute retreat. That’s 1 in 3 people (caregivers, activists, practitioners, people in recovery, women of color) who applied, were found eligible, and still couldn’t participate.

This spring, we’re working to change that outcome.

Our goal is to raise $30,000 in scholarship funding by the end of 2026. A contribution of $375 covers a 50% reduced-rate scholarship for one person to attend a multiday retreat. Here’s what that made possible in the lives of past scholarship recipients:

“Perhaps for the first time in my 50 years of life so far, I was able to experience rest beyond recovery. It was a revelation to my body and spirit.” — Restorative justice advocate

“I’m looking back at the retreat three months ago, and I’m recognizing that it was a turning point in how I’m relating to the world and my life.” — Retreat participant

“This retreat changed my life, and I seek to attend every future year. I am so grateful for the scholarship to be able to attend.” — Zen practitioner and activist

FAQ

Why are scholarships necessary?

Many people who need contemplative retreat experiences most—healthcare workers, teachers, community organizers, and BIPOC practitioners—cannot afford retreat costs. Scholarships make healing accessible regardless of financial circumstances.

How are scholarship recipients selected?

We prioritize those with demonstrated financial need, members of underrepresented communities, and helping professionals who serve others.

What if you raise more than $30,000?

Every dollar above our goal means more scholarships and fewer people turned away.
