Visionary Figures

As we look at the world today, we see so much anger, pain, disinformation, and polarization. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed or disconnected. That’s why my work and research on well-being, love and systems remind people of what makes us human – How can we live a good life? What helps us flourish?

What inspires me today is a constellation of visionary figures who each, in their own way, made science, kindness, love, and curiosity feel like home: A few I’d like to mention are my father Julio Villamil, Carl Sagan, Bill Nye, Mr. Rogers, Alan Watts, Bob Ross, and even creative figures like James Gunn and Superman.

These individuals modeled or have created art about what it means to communicate complex ideas with warmth, clarity, and humanity. They shaped my belief that technology, connection and science can be a tool for healing, and that social media, when used intentionally, can elevate well-being and awaken wonder—especially for those scrolling social channels looking for something meaningful, something that heals.

Carl Sagan reminded us that “we are a way for the cosmos to know itself.” Bill Nye taught us that science is fun and important. Julio Villamil taught me how to embody love and presence.

Mr. Rogers believed in the power of emotional intelligence and community. He famously said, “When I was a boy, and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.'” That quote lives at the center of my work. In every crisis – personal or global—I try to be a helper. Afterall, we are all neighbors.

Alan Watts challenged how we think, encouraging inner reflection and acceptance. Bob Ross gave us a peaceful revolution in creativity, showing us that mistakes are just “happy little accidents.”

Recently, in the 2025 Superman movie, a quote that really stood out to me came from Superman himself on the topic of kindness and seeing the beauty in others, “…maybe that’s the real punk rock”. James Gunn the writer and director of the film nailed this point home for me in an interview, “Hope is something outside of ourselves…It’s about being loving, being kind, and how that compassion is really the answer to everything.”

On my social media channels at https://linktr.ee/avpsychology, I weave together information with modern tools—using reels, and storytelling—to teach emotional health, science, and well-being in digestible, uplifting ways. In an age of information overload and digital noise, I want to show people that learning is beautiful, healing is possible, and curiosity is sacred.

You can follow along @AVPsychology on all platforms and join the journey—because the world needs more wonder, more wisdom, and more people who care.
