Dr. Cheryl A. Giles is a licensed clinical psychologist in Massachusetts, where she has practiced, consulted and taught for more than 30 years.
Prior to retiring in 2024, Dr. Giles was the Francis Greenwood Peabody Senior Lecturer on Pastoral Care and Counseling at Harvard Divinity School (HDS), where she mentored students and taught courses on spiritual care, trauma, and contemplative care of the dying. She received the Katie Canon Award for Heart-Centered Leadership Advancing Justice and Healing for 27 years of service to the school.
Dr. Giles has a commitment to public leadership and working with underserved populations. She has worked with children and adolescents in urban outpatient hospitals, inpatient programs, and community-based settings. She was Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Boston University of Medicine/Boston Medical Center, where she supervised Postdoctoral Psychology Fellows, was the Acting Director of the Child and Adolescent Psychology Program and provided therapy for children and adolescents.
Her former positions include Program Director for Lighthouse Adolescent Treatment Program, a Massachusetts Department of Mental Health Program funded to support adolescents with severe mental health challenges and Director of Adolescent Services at Dimock Community Health Center where she developed programs to meet the needs of teens in the Boston area.
Dr. Giles believes that deep listening and developing trust is the foundation for a strong relationship, where self-disclosure can take place within a supportive, non-judgmental, compassionate, and safe space. She is a practicing Buddhist and maintains a spiritual care practice for adults and continues to mentor graduate students from Harvard Divinity School.
