What’s Culture Got To Do With it?

Since fall 2008, when the City of Chicago launched the Chicago Climate Action Plan, The Field Museum has been leading regional efforts to engage Chicago communities in implementing the Plan’s five strategies. The museum also helped to craft the Chicago region’s Climate Action Plan for Nature, developed by the Chicago Wilderness conservation alliance. In this presentation, Dr. Hirsch shares the research-to-action process that her team has developed for involving communities in implementing city and regional strategies for climate action, in ways that simultaneously advance their local agendas for social change. The presentation highlights on particular project that has resulted from this work, the Chicago Community Climate Action Toolkit, a project led by The Field Museum that involved over 40 partner organizations. The Toolkit comprises 60+ multimedia tools that communities can use to nurture local efforts tailored to their community cultures that support city and regional climate action strategies.
