At the Garrison Institute’s 2011 Climate, Cities and Behavior Symposium, Melanie Nutter, Director of the San Francisco Department of the Environment, described the City’s Zero Waste Program. Over the past decade the program has not only significantly reduced the amount of waste produced by the City, it has also created jobs, promoted social equity and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
