Thaddeus (Tad) Pace, Assistant Professor of Nursing and Psychiatry in the College of Nursing at the University of Arizona (formerly with Emory University), is profiled in our annual report along with other Garrison Institute collaborators.  He researches how stress affects the endocrine and immune systems, and is working with the Garrison Institute on our new Contemplative-Based Resilience Training (CBRT) program.

“Stress can make the immune system run too hard, resulting in chronic inflammation and elevated risk for chronic medical as well as psychiatric illness,” says Pace, who has studied novel ways of promoting health despite exposure to psychosocial stressors. His previous research found compassion meditation positively affects heart rate, cortisol levels and various markers of inflammatory immune activity.
