Mary Esther Malloy founded Mindful Birth NY in New York City in 2004. Since then, she has offered thousands of families an expansive, holistic approach to childbirth and parenting. She believes that a deep engagement with mindfulness for birth and parenting can be an upstream intervention with the potential to interrupt the transgenerational passage of pain. Mary Esther is honored to have welcomed over 2000 families to her childbirth classes in New York City. She has attended over 500 labors as a doula, and more than 1,000 parents have participated in her Mindful Parenting Talk Groups. Mary Esther publishes regularly about mindfulness, birth, and parenting in journals, magazines and blogs. She holds a M.A. in Anthropology from New York University, and trained with Nancy Bardacke, author of Mindful Birthing, and founder of The Mindfulness-Based Childbirth and Parenting Foundation. From 2007 to 2016 Mary Esther developed curriculum and hosted workshops for Choices in Childbirth, including How to have a Great Hospital Birth, Choosing Homebirth, VBAC and Cesarean, Men and Birth, Breastfeeding and the 4th Trimester, among others.
