VIDEO: Father Thomas Keating on Contemplation, Social Change, and the Internet

By Garrison Institute

How do you change a world culture that is, in many ways, going in the opposite direction of love at top speed? This is the question at the heart of a recent wide-ranging conversation between Garrison Institute co-founder Jonathan Rose and Garrison Institute Spiritual Advisor Father Thomas Keating.

They begin their conversation by discussing contemplation in the schools, which can lead to students feeling more focused and emotionally resilient. While Father Keating acknowledges that contemplation can lead to these positive outcomes, he says that the deeper purpose of contemplation is deep transformation through love. From there they go on to discuss resolving the dichotomy of good and evil, the promise of the Internet for spreading wisdom, and more.

Watch some of the highlights from their conversation above.
